I’ve been practicing correcting negative self-talk around this recently:
From: “Rebecca, why can’t you just deal with this like normal people can?”
To: “Those are some big feelings, they’re all okay, you are safe. Is there something else going on right now that could be amplifying this? Can you be curious about these emotions whilst keeping them as feelings, not as who you are? How can you best support yourself in this moment? What do you need?”
So. Much. Kinder. So much more helpful.
